Assalammualaikum and Hello. Salam UiTM di hatiku! 💖
My name is Nur Khairunnisa Binti Rahman. I am student of UiTM Negeri Sembilan Campus Kuala Pilah, Diploma in Microbiology. I am glad to be part of UiTM students and I hope that I will pass my examination with flying colours in every semester.


The purpose of this blog is to present my notes about Study Skills that I have learned during my interim week. This subject so useful for students especially for the part 1 students. It helps students with learning skills essential for varsity life, which should be within each student.

MY LEARNING STYLE INVENTORY 


MY SCORE


My preffered learning styles are visual and auditory styles.

CHARACTERISTIC OF VISUAL, AUDITORY, AND KINESTHETIC MODES
  • Visual learners need to see information. If your preferred style is visual, you have strong visualivation skills and can remember objects, shapes and pictures. You learn by reading, and by watching film, videos, and demonstrations.You can see pictures in your mind.
  • Auditory learners need to hear informationIf your preferred style is auditory, you have a "good ear" and can hear differences in tones and rhythm. Reading out loud will be beneficial. You can remember what you hear in a lecture.
  • Kinesthetic learnes need to be physically active and doing things. If your preferred is kinesthetic, you are hands-on learner. You have good coordination and learn by doing. You generally have an active approach to learning.

VISUAL LEARNERS

(Create mind maps, flow chart, diagrams using a bright colours)

Seeing things help you memorize it.
(Put them where you can view them frequently)

Seeing things help you organize your thought.
(Rewrite your notes using different colours)


AUDITORY LEARNERS

Sound and music help you learn.
(Tape your instuctor's lecture and listen to the tape on your free time)

You learn best when you hear things more than once.
(Make a study group and do discussion together)


KINESTHETIC LEARNERS

Use your body, hands and sense of touch help you learn.
(Drawing, writing or movement help you remember things)

Show what you have learned by demonstrating.
(Making projects help you understand and remember what you have learned)


MY PERSONAL LEARNING STYLE PLAN

My learning styles are visual and auditory. So, diagrams help me a lot in study. I need to create mind maps such as i-think map in my notes. I will highlight my notes with different colour on the important part in my notes. If I want to remember something, I will change the keyword to a song because it easy to remember. I will make a study group with my friends. We will do a discussion and revision to help each other.


UNIVERSITY LIFE

As a university students, we need to be more responsible and productive to arrange our life in university life. High school environment is different with university. High school is teaching environment which students acquires fact and skills while university is learning environment which students must be independent and take responsibility for thinking and applying what have you learned. University life is tough because you need to do everything on your own. There are many differences between university and high school students. For example:

² Never skip the class. You need to attend all the class.
² Be prepared. Have a lok at the topic before attend the class
² Be responsible. Always done your work before the deadline.
² Be discipline. Make a timetable for study and relax.
² Be active. Participate in class will make your study fun.

² Study smart. Balance your study and entertainment.

Ø WHAT IS GOAL?
Definition of goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group people envisions plans and commit to achieve (wikipedia)

Basically, everyone in this world has their own goal. Goal is important because it help to motivate you to make your goals and dreams come true.

Ø CHARACTERISTICS OF GOAL.
You need to know the characteristics of goal setting for your reference to make a perfect goals and achieve your dreams.

Your goals should be:
ü Self-chosen
ü Smart
ü Measurable
ü Achievable
ü Relevant
ü Specific
ü Time-bound
ü Positive

MY ACADEMIC GOALS : I want to dean every semester.
Graduate on time.
Get title vice chancellor.

MY PERSONAL GOALS : Bring my family to perform umrah/haji.
Travel around the world.
Lost my weight till 45kg. 😂

My inspiration quote : Success doesn’t just find you. You have to go out and get it.

As a student I need to manage my time wisely. When to study, do an assignment, relaxing and hang out. This calendar help me a lot because I can divide my time systematically. Moreover, I can train myself to be more discipline on my own.

Ø WHAT IS MEMORY?
Memory is the faculty of the brain by which data or information is encoded, stored, and retrieved when needed. (wikipedia)

Ø 3 TYPES OF MEMORY:
l Short term memory - Have only limited storage, must be repeated in order.
Sensory memory - Just long enough to be transferred to short term memory. Allow individuals to retain impressions of sensory information after the original stimulus has ceased.
Long term memory - Unlimited and large storage. If the information is not being used for long term, the information will be lost.

Ø WAYS TO IMPROVE MEMORY:
ü Repeated the information many times.
ü Write things down.
ü Make the information to acronyms.
ü Test yourself
ü Say things loudly.
ü Teach it to someone else.

Concentration is a main cause for achievement. Not only for one time but for many times. It is the ability to focus the mind one single object or thought to the exclusion of everything else.

ü Study at a place that naturally free from distractions.
ü Stick to a routine.
ü Be discipline with effective studies schedule.
ü Focus on your goals.
ü Be passion in whatever you do.

MODULE 5 : TAKING LECTURE NOTES



Taking notes is an important part of the life of every students. It is very beneficial for the students in study especially for revision before examination.

Ø WHY TAKE NOTES?
It helps you concentrate in class.
It helps you prepare for test.
It helps you understanding the subject.
It helps you avoid plagiarism.
It helps you improve your memory skills.

Ø NOTES TAKING STRATEGIES.
Good notes will help you understand what material is important and what is secondary.
Key concepts and main points.
Important examples.
Definition and new vocabulary.
Any references provided.
Your thought, ideas and questions.

MODULE 6 : ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE 


 Avoiding Plagiarism


As a student we need to be integrity at all time especially in academic. Having integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. Academic integrity is so important because dishonest behavior like plagiarism undermines your learning. Plagiarism is taking someone elses work or ideas and passing them off as ones own. Students assessment activities like examination, assignment, reports, presentation and research must be their own work. Copy and paste behavior is example of plagiarism. Use your own idea will produce honest work with full integrity.


Ø WHAT IS GPA?
GPA is stand for Grade Point average. It is the measurement use to calculate all the numbered grades youve received and dividing them by the number of credits youve taken.

Ø WHAT IS CGPA?
CGPA is stand for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the measurement of average grade points obtained by students in all the semester.

Ø IMPORTANCE OF GPA/CGPA
If you get a good grades of GPA, you can get a lot of benefits such as you can stay in universitys college, get a scholarship, and get a great job.
